Gianandrea Noseda - 1994
Discovery and promotion of new young conductors from all over the world
The Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition began in 1992 and is organized every two years by the Cadaqués Orchestra with the aim of discovering and promoting young conductors. The winner of the competition is given the opportunity to conduct twenty-three of the most important Spanish symphony orchestras over three seasons. Major international orchestras such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Manchester Philharmonic and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic also collaborate with the competition.
Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Sir Neville Marriner, presidents of an international jury
The jury is made up of internationally renowned figures from the world of music, together with the Cadaqués Orchestra. The conductors Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Sir Neville Marriner alternate as President of the Jury.
A chance to present a new repertoire and the commission of a new work
The competition repertoire combines famous orchestral works with lesser-known works from the Spanish repertoire – unpublished and revived pieces by musicians from the past, which despite their quality had been forgotten or had not been performed or re-edited since the time they were composed.
The competition includes a work commissioned to a Spanish composer, which is premiered in the competition final. The guest composers have been: Hèctor Parra, Ramon Lazkano, Jesús Torres, Jesús Rueda, Xavier Montsalvatge, Cristobal Halffter, Luis de Pablo, Juan Guinjoan, Lleonard Balada, David del Puerto and José María Sánchez Verdú.
